What personality type is Virginia au Augustus (Mustang)? Virginia au Augustus (Mustang) is an ENFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w1 - so/sx - in Enneagram, SCOAI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
After reading Iron gold, I think I’m pretty sure about what her type is, unlike Darrow or Sevro. First of all, she is definitely a Je type, she tends to set rules and to search for the utility outside of her, she focuses on the object and tries to regulate what she can. And she definitely does this with a FeNi approach. Her focus isn’t on reliable logic or trying to manage logical resources, she focus on the emotions and what's the best approach to make when trying to achieve something, this can be first seen when she tells darrow that he can’t lead his team with power or violence, he has to treat his team like a family, like she did with her house. She’s also described as diplomatic instead of tyrannical and this is shown in all books, the way she seeks harmony with the bellona house is by using the emotions of cassius to maintain a stability between the Augustus and the Bellona. Or how she handles (spoiler) the republic, not “doing the things that need to be done” but instead trying to respect everyone's opinions so she can reach a consensus. She’s always thinking of what the consequences of her actions will have on other peoples life, in that way she can anticipate and try to do something about it, unlike Darrow, who believes he is the chosen one and that people should follow him because he is right. This is also sign of her Ni-Se axis, she uses Ni to try to see the motives and consequences that can affect her role as someone who brings stability, she focuses on the meanings of the actions that occur in her environment and she is not afraid to take action when needed. She does not value Ti, and it is shown in Iron Gold, she cares about her environment and social implications but she does not value an “ideology” or a logic, she only sees the emotional consequences, but she recognizes that people who have high Ti like Victra may be right when she is told that she cannot be so passive with all the factions. Following what I just said, I also believe that she is not a E1, since E1 are focused on their anger inside them, they want to repress this feeling as much as possible so they can be good and perfect, I think this is better seen in Dancer, who has a lot of anger inside him but he doesn’t really show it, however, he uses this anger to try and do the right thing and be “moral”, that's why he does the things he does in the senate in Iron Gold. Mustang on the other hand, doesn’t seem to be driven by this anger, is more like Pride, a role she must do, especially like a SO2. SO2 has a to be on top, and tends to be very strategic, in some scenarios can look like an E1 or E3. They are the “adults” in the room, wanting to create an image of someone who can do everything so they can have influence and actually take care of people so she can receive some sort of retribution. They often take the roles as leaders and they have some sort of satisfaction in having an audience. I know that mustang tends to be very rational and orderly like an E1, but that doesn’t mean she is one, most of her actions, although strategic, come from her feelings, what she feels about darrow, what she thinks is best for her family, she is willing to seduce Cassius in order to maintain her family, she takes pride in doing things for other and accommodating things to maintain stability, bus sh does in a mature and responsible way, not in a childish way like an SP2 or a sensual way like a SX2 (debatable when we talk about the cassius case).
