so, i've been replaying ffxv exactly because i wanted to figure out prompto's type, & i've come to a decision: he's ENFP. i'll explain below, hoping that i don't get too carried away. i won't bother explaining his auxiliary fi, since it's the same auxiliary function as ESFP, & i don't think his te is developed enough to be discussed (not that it really needs to, since again, it's shared by both ENFPs & ESFPs). i'll start off with why se doesn't fit him in my opinion. something about him being typed as a se dom has always rubbed me the wrong way; he's not in tune with senses almost at all. it's like his mind & body are uncoordinated. i'm not only talking about the way he fights: the way he interacts with the world around him is not how a se dom would. prompto doesn't jump right into action during fights, although he always ends up getting a heady rush from them. take gladio, a strong se user: he interacts with the world strictly in a physical way, taking into account what he feels through all of his senses, & then processes these feelings through his auxiliary function, which is ti. prompto doesn't do the same. he's constantly distracted, way more than a se dom would be (gladio also struggles to keep up with everything prompto says). let me explain why him being a ne dom makes more sense: his ne truly shines when photography is involved. the way he comes up with so many different ideas for his photos, making noctis/ignis stop the car during car rides to take them, reminds me of ne, not se. he's scatterbrained, has that "daydreaming" vibe constantly. of course it's possible for ESFPs to daydream, but not as often as prompto does. he comes up with things suddenly, connecting them with each other at random times, like when ignis said that for every lock there is a key, & prompto made that (kingdom hearts) reference saying that they needed a magical key to open every door, like in videogames. it was a weird connection, & although most likely used as comedy, it wouldn't be weird for a ne dom. the things prompto says are often not logical, nor are they realistic. he simply says things because his mind is buzzing with ideas all the time, & he needs to let them out. i'd like to explain inferior si as well. when it is inferior, si can manifest itself in ENFPs through some sort of need for safety, or security. it could be argued that this feeling comes from prompto's enneagram, rather than his inferior function, but it makes more sense than inferior ni. i want to remind that the inferior function is the one we rely on when we're under stress. when the group started falling apart after ignis became blind, prompto was the one that felt this change the most, & tried to keep their relationships together. again, it could seem only like the 6 in his enneagram, but his inferior si made him feel like he needed to keep that "stability", that old, familiar feeling that the group brought him. this includes him trying to follow rules to fit in with other people. nostalgia is symbolic of tertiary si as well, so i can't base my argument on this, but take when the regalia got taken away as an example: it had only been a few hours, yet prompto was quick to say "we were unstoppable with [the regalia]". he quickly got nostalgic over something that was barely even gone. i'd also argue that yes, ne doms tend to start plans without ever finishing them, but when they use their si healthily they can keep doing something forever, if they're really passionate. again, this aspect truly shines through his love for photography.
