What personality type is Rei Furuya (Amuro Tooru/Bourbon)? Rei Furuya (Amuro Tooru/Bourbon) is an ENTJ personality type in MBTI, 5w6 - so/sp - 538 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, in Socionics.
Initially, I was also on the INFJ/ENFJ team for him, but after some time, to me, ENTJ seem to be way more reasonable for him. So far, it seems that we have a general consensus that he's definitely an Ni-Se user, which leaves us just the debate on whether he's an Fe-Ti or Te-Fi user. On a glance, Fe-Ti makes a really good sense for him, as he's really proficient in reading social contexts and adapting his personas accordingly. With the BO agents, he's putting on a cold and conceited personality. With his fellow PSB agents, he maintains a detached and dutiful front. And especially, with Kogoro, Azusa, Detective Boys etc., adopting a friendly, considerate guy-next-door personality seems to be like second nature to him. Though I think it is important to note, is this coming out of Fe or Te? Something I've observed is that often, Fe users tend to put on masks for the sake of social harmony on its own. While Te users are also capable of the same or at least a similar feat, they do so for the sake of a certain goal, to achieve something. In this case, Rei is clearly discerning social contexts and adopts different personalities because he needs to, for his Te, his duty as a PSB agent, to infiltrate the BO, to get on people's good sides, to gather information, you name it. Let's look at the situation when he "didn't have an (immediate) goal in mind". I think this best illustrated when you see his personality in the Wild Police Story. Do you think you saw any prominent displays of Fe coming from him? I picked up a great deal of Fe from Date, Hiro, and even Hagiwara, but hardly any from Furuya. He's most often objective focused, and has no signs of being concerned about social harmony. I really doubt that's an Fe. His personality is surely a big mess because Gosho seems to just mold him to whatever he needs to be (which I still love). Don't get me started on Zero's Tea Time, as much as I love him, I think it's too stretched for pure fanservice, and his character is way too different from the main series (more of an Fe user, imo). So let's just exclude ZTT because I don't think we should make it to be canon. Main series and movies-wise though, he's very Te oriented, which may occasionally manifest as Fe because thats what his position requires. And don't you think that the fact that it's really difficult for us to see his "real" self, is because he has inferior Fi? He's all about that doing what he needs to do to get the job done, but about his feelings himself? Do we ever get to see when he's being authentic to himself? Well, yes, only when Scotch and Akai is involved (which is why I love their dynamics so much), but hardly outside of that. He's constantly pushing his authenticity, feelings and morals down for that objective of his, hence Fi inferior. In conclusion, Te-Ni-Se-Fi, hence ENTJ.
