What personality type is "Captain" Carswell Thorne? "Captain" Carswell Thorne is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 3w4 - sx/so - 378 in Enneagram, SCUEI in Big 5, in Socionics.
To much vibe typing here, for the enneagram part (no need to talk about Se-Ti since he is the blueprint). To start, i wanna debunk enneagram typing errors, sx3 and E7 (i almost fell in the trap). First -> Someone needs to identify to the core type and the defense mechanism and cognitive functioning of a enneagram to be typed. Here, I'll only reference Chestnut because, for the demonstration of 8's, she stays close to Naranjo. Apart of the fact that Thorne doesn't match to so3 nor sp3 descriptions here are the most shocking, to me, contradictions to his character : Coping mechanisms : «Threes report that they received the message early on that they were loved for what they did.» Thorne lied about his actions, he doesn't do them for others. No shame wound. And no seek of approval. Thorne doesn't use identification, he just lies to get away with his things. Emotional Passion : «The passion of Type Three is vanity. Vanity is a passion for “living for the eyes of others.” The passion of vanity motivates Threes to present a false image to others to inspire their admiration and to live life “in anticipation or fantasy of the experience of another.”» If Thorne REALLY seeked vanity he would have stayed in the army : reminder, he was PRAISED for his skills. But he did not care. Trait structure : 1) Other-Directedness (Thorne doesn't act for people or why would he even steel a ship from his country army) 2) Achievement Orientation, Focus on Success, Competitiveness and the Drive to Win (Thorne doesn't even have a regular evolution, he does what he wants for the pure want of having new experiences) 3) Image Manipulation and Self-Deception (YES, Thorne cares about his image but he doesn't do it for others, it is much more egoistical ᵃⁿᵈ ˢᵉˣʸ) For seven I'm gonna keep it short with the fact that sevens are mentally, actively, trying to seek the best. They're portrayed as caring for others tho, and here comes their charism. I invite you to read the introduction of Chestnut in The Complete Enneagram of E7 + their subtypes description and you'll see it's not Thorne at all. Because he acts first and thinks after. Now, before going on why core 8, because of the great difference his character as with 7 I think the peace seeking 9 goes best with him, but it is debatable and quite hard decision. I am going directly to sexual 8 description, then, a little sp8 and finally I'll quote what shows he applies to core and coping mechanisms (cognitive functioning doesn't even need to be explored throughly since ESTP is E8 lmao). Sexual 8 : «This outspoken, rebellious Eight likes to be seen as bad – or at least they don’t mind it -- and they tend not to feel any guilt over the rebellious things they do. They seek adventures, risks, challenges, and the thrill of an adrenaline rush.» Interesting points that made me think of him and Cress under sx8 description : «In line with their passionate forward movement into action, they may be particularly intolerant of weakness, dependence, and slow people.
