What personality type is Arthas Menethil? Arthas Menethil is an ESFP personality type in MBTI, 2w3 - sx/sp - 286 in Enneagram, SCOEN in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.
Since everyone else has commented on ENFJ, I'll do the opposite. I see him more as an ESFP, probably counter-phobic 6w7, but possibly 2w3. As least in the game, Arthas was very self centered. He wanted to save his people. It is true that Fe valuing people often think this way, but it does not make it impossible for it to be a Fi based decision. When reasoning between the two, you cannot simply judge from the goals, but rather where they come from or how you act while working towards them. Uther, for example, while both he and Arthas wanted the best for the kingdom, and their break in friendship hurt them both, it was from opposite ends of the spectrum. Had Arthas been Fe-Ni, the confrontations would have happened much differently. It wouldn't be a reactionary push from Arthas like it was, and he would have likely been more reasonable in dealing with Uther rather than needing to call upon his birthright to force him to temporarily back down. All of Arthas' enemies, Kel'thuzad, the demons, the lich king, they all strung him along by using his one goal against him. Arthas never attempted to look at the bigger picture and focused on what was right in front of him. His lack of foresight, inability to backdown, and self centeredness were his downfall for both him and the people he wanted to save. This isn't Ni, this is Se-Fi. Of course, this is coming from the game version of Arthas and his actions and reasoning from within them. It is highly likely that he acts differently in the books. It is also likely that the authors simply describe him a certain way, while within a typological system, these descriptions would miss the mark, so I don't discredit anyone who would vote ENFJ based on those or other reasonings outside of the games where he clearly is an ESFP.
Biography
Arthas Menethil, Crown Prince of Lordaeron and Knight of the Silver Hand, was the son of King Terenas Menethil II and heir to the throne. He was trained as a paladin by Uther the Lightbringer and was inducted into the Order of the Silver Hand. Arthas also had a romantic relationship with the kind sorceress Jaina Proudmoore. Committed to the protection of his people, Arthas was determined to stop the plague spreading throughout Lordaeron. Arthas became one of the most powerful and evil beings Azeroth would ever know. Although he killed the necromancer Kel'Thuzad, Arthas was unable to stop the spread of the plague and resorted to increasingly desperate methods, such as purging the city of Stratholme. Taking up the cursed runeblade Frostmourne, Arthas was able to defeat the demon Mal'Ganis, but he lost his soul in the process. Becoming a death knight of the Scourge, he led the undead in destroying Lordaeron, Quel'Thalas, and Dalaran. Arthas later became The Lich King.
