Personality

What personality type is Yusuke Kitagawa? Yusuke Kitagawa is an ISFP personality type in MBTI, 4w5 - sp/sx - 451 in Enneagram, RLUEI in Big 5, IEI in Socionics.

I've seen a few INTJ arguments presented recently, and honestly, I'm glad there's actual healthy discussion on the topic! However, I still quite firmly agree with him being an ISFP, and I'm making this comment to solidify this view + contest the arguments that have been presented for the INTJ votes. Let's get the surface-level stuff out of the way; the reason for there being so many ISFP and INTJ votes, despite the two types being very different, is because almost everyone agrees he has strong Fi and strong Ni. Those are therefore the only two types that fit. However, the two types are still vastly different from one another, and there are many different points of reference you can look at to determine whether someone with high Fi + high Ni is an ISFP or an INTJ. While I've given the possibility of him being an INTJ a fair shot, I'd go so far as to say that *every* single point of reference regarding the meaningful differences between ISFP and INTJ supports Yusuke being an ISFP. I'll go over a few of them now. ISFPs typically have high Se and very low Te, while INTJs typically have high Te and very low Se. I've seen people arguing for Yusuke having high Te usage on the basis of him searching for "the truth" in his art and connecting this to the objectivity of Te, and using the fact that he's often not focused on his surroundings to defend low Se. However, both of these points have major issues. The argument for his Te usage sounds decent on the surface, but it only works if you greatly overgeneralise what Te usage actually is. Te is a function based around using objective forms of measurement, such as statistics and data, as a basis for decision making. While Te usage is often connected to the idea of "objectivity", Yusuke's pursuit of "truth" in his art has nothing to do with using objective forms of measurement to make decisions. What this "truth" refers to, going by his confidant story, is trying to understand the emotions of the human heart on a deeper level so that he can reflect this in the art he produces. If anything, this is more of an argument for his Fi usage, and has only the most rudimentary connections with Te usage. His actual examples of explicit Te usage in the game are completely backwards; when presented with objective forms of measurement (like his finances), it seemingly goes through one ear and out the other, leading him to consistently make poor and impractical decisions. Comparatively, his disconnection with his surroundings is, as I've discussed in a previous comment, extremely inconsistent and more meant as a way to show his social awkwardness and lack of situational awareness rather than his actual disconnect from his senses. He *very* frequently shows his obsession with new sensory information; to give just a few examples off the top of my head, he has a Mementos voiceline where he obsessively states that he "needs more stimulation", he ends up spending the very last of his cash on two lobsters simply because he found them "aesthetically pleasing", he admires Futaba's palace for its perfect adherence to the golden ratio, and in his confidant storyline, he's shown to intensely hone in on every single detail of two people in front of him on a canoe in an attempt to replicate their picturesque appearance. And these are only a handful of examples, when this is a fairly consistent character trait through the whole game. While he sometimes shows a lack of situational awareness, this is far outweighed by him *consistently* being obsessed with his sensory information, which gives much better basis for his Se usage.
