Harriet was blinded by her love for Mr. Elton, but tries to unlove him and avoids him after he gets married. Harriet isn't intelligent and smart as her friend Emma, which makes Harriet dependant on her dear friend. Be it an opinion or decision, she always relies on Emma's words and advice. She showers her dear Emma with compliments and appreication, no matter how flawed or good her advice is. Miss Harriet Smith is a parlour boarder at Mrs Goddard's school in Highbury. She's an illegitimate daughter of somebody who has money, but nothing is known of her origin. Mrs Goddard brings her to Hartfield and Emma befriends her. Emma determines to find a proper husband for Harriet.
