What personality type is Doctor Angus Bumby? Doctor Angus Bumby is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - so/sp - 351 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, EII in Socionics.
This man is an INTJ, a very classic INTJ, and I have never been more sure of anything in my life. His entire character arc is based around manipulation, analysis, and self-serving scheme at the cost of those around him. People may be tempted to say his auxiliary function is Fe because of his endgame speech about doing society a service in his own way. I disagree; strong Fe often comes with a sense of harmony and cooperation, as well as decision-making that benefit others. Dr. Bumby's most critical decisions hinge on benefiting himself, irrespective and almost blind to the damage caused as a result. Take, for example, his methodology for setting the Liddell house ablaze. He went to the trouble of locking Lizzie's room and setting the house on fire, to cover up his crimes and ensure his innocence. He used the lamp upstairs to set the library on fire, which was a mark of quick and analytical thinking. This shows not only Ni-dom thinking but also unquestionably Te-aux: efficiency, logic, and the use of hard facts to make decisions, at the expense of personal values. He did not value the lives or the impact of the Liddell family nor the community around them. He simply used the tools he had available to ensure his own continued survival as a free member of society, coldly and ruthlessly. This is confirmed again, broadly, in his work at Houndsditch. Dr. Bumby uses dissociation and trauma responses to break the psyches of children in his care, showing a comprehensive knowledge of human psychology, but NOT a care for the actual humanity of the patient. He is using people like pawns. Given that INTJ is well-known as a "chessmaster" type, this is another strike in its favor. In addition, the way he interacts with patients (and people around him in general) fits neatly into the INTJ's typical pattern of socialization: intellectual, but blunt. He asserts his worldview and motives over others', to the point of coming off as arrogant at times.
Biography
Alice's new psychiatrist in Victorian London, Dr. Bumby hypnotizes his patients to help them deal with their problems, though he seems overly focused on making Alice forget Wonderland. It is revealed towards the end that the reason he wants to erase Wonderland is because he was the one who raped and murdered Alice’s sister and then caused the house fire that claimed the rest of her family to cover his tracks. He also plans to break Alice into a sex slave like many other children in his care hence his Wonderland form, The Dollmaker.
