What personality type is Ritsu Sakuma? Ritsu Sakuma is an INTP personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - sp/sx - 954 in Enneagram, RLUEI in Big 5, ILI in Socionics.

Ritsu Sakuma as a Sexual 5 — i've never really thought to question ritsu's typology. after all, sp9 seemed a perfect fit for him, and indeed i still agree that subtype strongly matches his personality, but i've had doubts that it's the closest match. rather, i'm considering sexual 5 for ritsu. the last thing i wanted to do however was base ritsu's typology on just his relationship with mao despite it being a crucial part of ritsu's character. (which was the initial spark for me to consider sx5) so i'm also trying to consider his relationships with the other most important people in his life here: knights and rei. • "he's like a shadow. he'll disappear before you know it, since he's a friend who keeps his distance." — izumi's introduction • though he may seem cold and uninterested, ritsu is a playful and intelligent person at his core. • he's blunt and harsh to a fault and regards psychoanalysis as a bad habit of his. however i will base my first notes for sx5 on his and mao's relationship — more specifically, ritsu's desires within this relationship. after all i think ritsu's behaviour towards mao is the prime example of his own way of expressing love. i find sexual subtypes hard to place often since they place such a strong focus on romantic relationships. so don't take all these notes i'm referencing in a "romantic" sense, and more just general intimacy with others. • this five has a passion for finding a special person they can connect with deeply, a high ideal in the realm of love. this can also happen with the search for good friends or a spiritual teacher. • while other five subtypes are more removed from their emotions, the sexual five is intense, romantic and more emotionally sensitive. this five resembles the four more than other fives and has more overt desires. —> interestingly enough, ritsu was previously mistyped as a four on here, and i can see why from first glances. • trust is the basic issue with the sx5 - suggesting a search for the person who will be with you no matter what, the partner/friend that you can trust with all your secrets. • fives tend to be private people but this five has a great need for intimacy under the right circumstances - if they can find a person they can really trust to love them despite their flaws. there's more to it but these are some baseline bullet points. ritsu holds mao as the dearest person to him, the idealised individual who he can trust to love him no matter what, and accepts him despite his many flaws. ritsu puts all of his trust into mao, shows him every face of his being. he's clingy and makes intimate (not necessarily romantic but you get me..) advances often. while ritsu is often laid back, lazy, and disconnected from others (cough enneagram 5), when it comes to mao, he is passionate and intense. as a result of mao being his "idealised love" he holds mao to ridiculously high standards. if their trust is threatened slightly, ritsu reacts in an extreme manner. the sx5 "tests" others in their relationships. for example in band ensemble, ritsu has a very strong reaction to mao not wearing his hair clip, something which mao had not considered would upset ritsu. due to the strong passionate values ritsu places on their interactions and memories, such small symbolic things that signify a break in the idealised relationship cause him to become greatly distressed. ritsu's way of dealing with his anger at these situations is very reminiscent of enneagram 5's defense mechanism : isolation. ritsu isolates himself and hides away, cutting himself off to avoid dealing with strong emotions and acts vacant and disinterested when confronted with these issues. —> i also see this in their horror night halloween disagreement. when mao apologises for accidentally dismissing ritsu, despite ritsu's strong internal emotions, he maintains a cold tone and manner when discussing the situation. he also comes off as flippant and dismissive as a result, even though he is greatly upset. during conflict, ritsu often talks down to mao (unintentionally maybe) saying that he'll never understand, and almost belittling the way he often misses the mark of how he's upset ritsu. this is quite five-ish as he's placing himself on a pedestal of wisdom, ritsu is showing he is the knowledgable one. another surface level point but maybe relevant. i ended up rambling a lot about rtmo here since i think ritsu's affection is very sx5 but i'll come back in a reply and elaborate on how this subtype also applies to his relationships with knights and rei. briefly though.. • ritsu is also very loyal and affectionate to the select few he is truly comfortable with • ritsu's treatment of rei seems like it stems from that "idealised bond" being broken - rei's absence was not the love ritsu wanted of him, he broke the trust ritsu so greatly values. this is why he acts so blunt and intense towards rei, to an extent which others see as excessive.

Biography

In the daytime it's hard to get his engine going, so Ritsu is often found napping in all sorts of places. He goes at his own pace and is relaxed, but can say some cutting things when he thinks quickly. His singing voice is like a sweet whisper, and his performances flow languidly.
