Personality

What personality type is Prince Nikolai Andreevich Bolkonsky I? Prince Nikolai Andreevich Bolkonsky I is an ESTJ personality type in MBTI, 1w9 - - in Enneagram, in Big 5, LSE in Socionics.

I don't really see 8 at all, this seems to be the vote just because he is angry a lot. But his anger is never driven by lust for intensity of experience, power and triumph, etc. - in fact, he is very willing to just live a quiet life in his country estate, working hard, yes, but not looking for intense experiences and great victories at all. Rather his anger seems to be motivated by a frustration with other people not being as perfect and competent as he would like them to be. When we are first introduced to him we see how he values hard work and intelligence and criticizes the world for being stupid and lazy (in addition to the criticism and dissatisfaction fitting 1, it also reflects 1 being a competency type), and his constant criticism of Marya is rooted in her not living up to the ideal he sets. The anger is completely rooted in criticism and resentment of the world and wanting everyone to meet his standards. 5 makes a little more sense than 8 and I do think it's in his tritype, he is more withdrawn than expansive the way an 8 would be, but he's not as withdrawn as a 5 - while 5s are also a competency type, they tend to procrastinate and have trouble enacting their thoughts and plans in the real world due to their avarice (wanting to keep it all to themselves), while Nikolai is industrious, and while 5s are a superego type this is mostly directed at themselves, they aren't nearly as focused on criticism of others as a 1. While 5s can certainly have an elitist sort of disdain for everyone who isn't representative of an intellectual or spiritual ideal in the case of social 5 or their chosen partner in the case of sexual 5, which can lead to criticism of others, their anger is still more hidden than a 1's and their criticism is more about "you are uninteresting and below me so I won't even try to interact with you or bother to go after you too much, you're not worth my time" than 1's "you are imperfect so I will be obsessed with trying to reform you and make you perfect", I feel a 5 Nikolai would show some disdain for Marya but not be as obsessed with criticism of her.
