me vs posting arguments for characters with 20 votes <3 TLDR: He’s a sp/sx 1w2 - Andy resembles sp 1s especially in his interactions with Jude. Like sp 1s, he represses his anger in order to be a supportive figure for Jude and is extremely self critical of his choices as Jude’s doctor. He didn’t have the heart to send Jude to a mental hospital for a much of the book, but he was very critical of himself for this, even before the later events in the story occur. Sp 1s contain their anger very well, being the most repressed of the 1 subtypes, but under pressure it leaks out as irritation / resentment / frustration / self righteousness. This applies to Andy quite well; whenever Jude came to him more “hurt” (ykwim) than usual, Andy’s distress presented itself as anger and frustration. He’d yell, and once his rage passed, he was back to having a more gentle and supportive state. Jude himself even stated that because of this he never knew when Andy would get mad during their appointments. I say sp/SX because like sx 1s, we do also see Andy act like a reformer at times. I immediately think of his interactions with Willem, because Andy’s irritation with Williem’s compliancy to Jude’s self destructiveness is as clear as day. Andy hopes to help Jude get better, and this wish is driven by anger like sx 1s. However, I say he’s sp core because he seems to behave like a sp 1 in more aspects of his character; his anger is tinted by sx 1 motives, but he behaves like a sp 1 more constantly throughout the story.

Andy Contractor is a character from the novel A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. He is Jude's long-time doctor and one of the few who knows about Jude's scars.
