Shiva (/ˈʃiːvə/; Sanskrit: शिव [ɕɪʋɐ], IAST: Śiva, ISO: Śiva, lit. 'the auspicious one'), also known as Mahadeva (lit. 'the great god'), is one of the principal deities of Hinduism.
