“The important thing isn’t can you read music, it’s can you hear it. Can you hear the music, Robert?” I love this quote dearly. This initial interaction almost perfectly characterizes the communication of individuals with dominant Ni. We see young Oppenheimer “hearing the music” very early in the film, but Bohr was the first to see it in him, recognize it, and acknowledge him. This seemingly had a tremendous impact on Oppenheimer who held immense respect for Bohr throughout. It is that abstract understanding without being able to vocalize it, where the realms of language, math, and scientific understanding are limited, that greatly frustrates Ni-doms. When there is no way to communicate that which one feels and knows so strongly, it can bring one to the brink of insanity. So for it to be seen by another means a great deal, especially as a younger individual who may not be taken seriously. Niels Bohr has always been one of my favorite scientific minds and it comes as no surprise that he ended up being my favorite character in the movie.
