Your average protagonist is ISFP because they need to know themselves, have strong values/morals that they believe in, and strive to maintain those no matter what (Fi), as well as be in touch with the world around them (Se) to appeal to the average watcher or reader, who is likely to be young. It is harder to relate to characters with other functions since Fi and Se reflect the average person and young people much better than other functions. Ni: It is hard to relate to characters who live in the future rather than the moment, who can predict what will happen in the future or who already have their entire future planned because the average person has no idea what the future holds and has no idea what to do with their life. However, at the same time, people seek answers about the future, so tertiary Ni works to show development later into the story. Ne: Jumping from one thing to another can be confusing, so while Ne characters are fun and creative, they may not be the easiest characters to relate to as what makes them amazing is that others may lack their bounciness and boundless creativity. I imagine a young watcher/reader may find it hard to follow a Ne protagonist too. Si: Learning from the past is very much a 'grownup' thing. Si is what you find in a reflective story, not in your average fictional story aimed at young people. While Si can be insightful, the average person probably finds it boring because they want to let things go and live in the moment and does not want their past to be held against them. Ti: Ti is the edgy teen who questions their parents, teachers and society. However, that is not the average person, hence why Ti users are more likely to be the deuteragonist instead of the protagonist unless the work is aimed at edgy teens. Te: It is hard to relate to organised people who can find the most efficient solution since the average person is nowhere near as organised and may find it difficult to find an optimal solution. What makes Te users so mesmerising is exactly that ability, for they do not struggle where others do. Fe: The average person cares about themselves most of all, not about others. Fe characters can be inspiring, but the reason why they inspire others is exactly because they encourage people to think of people besides themselves. At the same time, people may be sceptic about Fe because 'Why would I think of others? Gotta focus on myself, got my own things to deal with', hence why Fi is easier to have in a protagonist than Fe. Of course, all functions and types can make a compelling protagonist, but the easiest, most basic, generic average person protagonist is likely to be ISFP as they are the most 'relatable'.
