A very slandered character in history. This guy was flawed in his own right, but no way near as incompetent as Romance of the Three Kingdoms portrays him. This guy would have been an amazing politician if it were peace times. And he was apparently a pretty good governor. You don't survive till Cao Cao kicks you to the curb without being both competent and having built a stable base of power. Though he definitely showed alot of all the worst traits in every part of his typology. Dominant Te: Cared more about just doing things, black and white results. Rather than thinking things through. Provided, he definitely did what was rationally best for the moment most of the time (like a Te Dom would). Tertiary Ne: Constantly bouncing between advisor's opinions and ideas and being indecisive, being Ni Blind on steroids. Called in a bunch of warlords to the capital and started the civil war. Sure, bringing soldiers in to kill the eunuchs would help his gentry class but you don't have to bring in DONG ZHUO. Upside, he sounds like a fun guy to be around and is actually pretty open minded, minus when you directly contradict him. Inferior Fi: Intolerant piece of **** since Day 1. Tried to assassinate his own friends and basically jailed his loyal advisors for giving him contradicting ideas to his own. Bro pussied out of Guandu and ditched his army too in silence. Also this isn't usually portrayed in ROTK, but his annexing of Bingzhou and Han Fu's land is some shady stuff. Enneagram 3: He was quite the image connoisseur early to mid career, but went too far. Bro tried to act like he was the saviour of the Han Dynasty during the Battle of Guandu and opted for open battles at every chance. Being too showy and refusing to attack his enemy's capital when it was expedient because "that would be too sneaky and dishonorable". 1V: Values his autonomy all the time to the point he feared having to take in the Han Emperor as hostage. Bro forgot that if the court was with him, the one able to give "imperial orders" is the guy with the large army. And Yuan Shao that was. Also quite arrogant and wayyyy too adamant about implementing his own ideas. 4L: Indecisive and swayed easily because he relied too much on his advisors, but went against some good advice With that being said, he apparently had amazing charisma, and was impressive and a good networker. Cao Cao probably spent time with this guy to learn them skills, but Cao implemented them one step further by actually working to keep his supporter base united. This is a classic enneagram 3 + Te dom set of traits where he knows how to play to the publics (imperial court and gentry class) expectations since young and incorporated all the best traits that would maximise his power base if he was to take office. Yuan Shao was born inferior to his brother and knew since young he had to be better, hence he was more accepting towards "lower" class people like Zhang Miao. Point deducted, he never learned anything past that point and basically became less of a leader and more of a powerful glass cannon. BIG 5 ANALYSIS: Social - He was extroverted even as a youth. Obvious. Next. Limbic - Got upset quite easily, and was known for dramatic shows of emotion. Organised - His compartmentalisation of his 4 provinces shows this immensely. Non-Inquisitive - Now this guy was a major party goer and never did really show any signs of curiosity in general, academically and in terms of dealing with external incidents. Cao Cao actually found a literal box of TOYS when raiding his command camp at Guandu. Yea, not a scholar. Egocentric - This is a hard one, but I feel agreeable personality is just his persona, which suited him VERY well. In reality, he was always out for himself and you don't really see him being very cooperative with both his men and his enemies, unlike the likes of Liu Bei. I'd put him at 50% egocentric, and he's just selfish enough to cross the line into E.

Yuan Shao was a warlord who lived in the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. He occupied the northern territories of China during the civil wars that occurred towards the end of the Han dynasty. He was also an elder half-brother of Yuan Shu, a warlord who controlled the Huai River region, though the two were not on good terms with each other.One of the most powerful warlords of his time, Yuan Shao spearheaded a coalition of warlords against Dong Zhuo, who held Emperor Xian hostage in the imperial capital, Luoyang, but failed due to internal disunity. In 200, he launched a campaign against his rival Cao Cao but was defeated at the Battle of Guandu. He died of illness two years later in Ye (in present-day Handan, Hebei). His eventual failure despite his illustrious family background and geographical advantages was commonly blamed on his indecisiveness and inability to heed the advice of his advisers.
