Roger Gracie is a renowned Brazilian former professional mixed martial artist and one of the most accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in history. Born on September 26, 1981, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he is the son of Reila Gracie and Maurício Motta Gomes, and the grandson of Carlos Gracie, a founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Roger Gracie holds a 5th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is celebrated for his achievements in both BJJ and MMA. He is a 10-time IBJJF World Champion, winning titles across multiple weight classes from 2004 to 2010, and the first competitor to win the open weight division three times. Additionally, he is a two-time European Champion and a Pan Champion. In MMA, Gracie competed in organizations like Strikeforce and the UFC, holding a professional record of 8 wins and 2 losses. He was the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight Champion in 2016. Gracie retired from competition in 2017 but continues to be involved in martial arts as a coach and instructor. He founded the Roger Gracie Academy in London and occasionally teaches at Evolve MMA in Singapore.
