⋆ The whole point of his character is to represent Ne, especially in contrast with Simon's Se. Although his world is very limited at the beginning of the anime, he sees beyond. His dialogues are always emphasizing his "going beyond the impossible and kick reason to the curb" mentality. He constantly sees potential in both situations (going to the surface, and even above) and people (trusting Simon as a leader despite his shy and insecure nature). He sees a hostile mecha and has the brilliant thought to control it. No one knows combination between mechas is even possible yet he has the hunch to try and do it. He's all about what something COULD be, not what it is. While Simon is the more grounded and realistic Se user type, capable of putting into action what Kamina inspires him to do (according to Kamina himself), the latter is the idealistic and dreamy one. He sure does a lot practically speaking, but his core strength lies in the charisma that transpires through his words, not actions. Kamina does not live in the "here and now," his mind is focused on the future. While it's true that he goes with the flow and reacts promptly to things, that's pretty much normal in the context of dynamic and continuous battles of Gurren Lagann. The series is fast-paced, it doesn't leave much time to show the characters' thoughts, yet every time Kamina is shown in a moment of reflection, he's always thinking about something out of the ordinary. ⋆ Moreover, he does NOT show inferior Ni. He blindly trusts his intuition and has a big-picture mindset, he doesn't focus at all on details and isn't troubled about the uncertainty of the future. ⋆ Kamina's Fi is also pretty obvious. He understands and connects with Simon because he sees his past self in him. He encourages Simon to be his own person. He always follows his heart despite what others think, he's the most spontaneous and genuine version of himself he could be. His beliefs are a fundamental part of who he is, and he doesn't give them up under any circumstances. ⋆ Lastly, his tertiary Te is evident as well. He doesn't need detailed plans, he's quick to take action because what's important is the result (maybe it's this impulsivity that's commonly mistaken as Se dom). He’s also a blunt, charismatic leader in spite of his light and comical character, typical of this function in the tertiary spot.

Simon's "big brother", a big-mouthed teen who refuses to acknowledge the words "quit" or "surrender" in any form. Through sheer bullheadedness, he manages to steal a mecha of his own (the Gurren) and use it and Simon's Lagann to challenge the rule of the oppressive Beastmen.
