King of Mycenae and brother of Menelaus, who commanded the Greek forces in the Trojan War. When he prepared to sail to Troy with his army from Aulis, he incurred the wrath of Artemis (the reasons for this vary) and was forced to offer his daughter, Iphigenia, as a sacrifice to appease her.
