[1/2] Mayene as a Self-Preservation E7 SP7—She is the most troublesome student at Jixia. She's super talented and clever, but her ideas can be offbeat. She's spontaneous and unpredictable, constantly distracting others, which kept Fuzi on his toes. Appreciation to her issues with her hero dad, she’s convinced all heroes are idiots. She had her heart set on teaching at Jixia and staying there for good, but that plan got derailed by her mom’s dying wish, to head to Navenia and find some captain named Red Hawk. Mayene thought it’d be easy, but then ran into that “idiot” mercenary. Mayene was born in May, a month all about feeling content. Her dad always said that having just enough is the key to being happy. But everyone sees "contentment" differently. For her, feeling at home was enough, while her dad believed it came from a strong kingdom that could keep its people safe. When all the kids in Yong were dreaming of being heroes like Ji Yunchu, she mostly just remembered him leaving the house day after day. Watching him work so hard made her think a lot about what it meant to be a hero. She realized that being a hero often brought nothing but trouble, and they stopped being just people, they became symbols that everyone had big expectations for. The Ji Yunchu everyone wanted to be was just a fantasy, while the real Ji Yunchu had a wife and a daughter waiting for him at home. She is hands-down the most challenging student at the Jixia Martial Arts Academy. She’s super talented and smart, but her mind always buzzes with odd ideas. She’s a free spirit, that "special" student Fuzi constantly has to keep an eye on. Her mom left Navenia and fell head over heels for her dad, a hero from Yong, and out of that whirlwind love, Mayene was born. While other kids dreamed of having a hero for a dad, she thought being a hero was more of a headache. Heroes weren’t real people anymore, they were symbols, idols. And to her, with all the choices life offers, becoming a hero appeared like one of the worst ones. When her mother passed away and her father was off doing his heroic thing, she ended up under the care of Fuzi, the headmaster of Jixia Academy. She wasn’t any good at sorcery, but her martial arts skills were unreal. In fact, during her entrance exam, she floored the teacher most unexpectedly, leaving the whole academy stunned. Once she was in, though, she started nodding off in class and barely put in any effort to pass. She had a talent for sneaking in time off and dodging work. Most of the teachers gave up on her, but Fuzi saw potential like she was a hidden gem waiting to shine. Fuzi never gave up on her, no matter how much she tried to shake him off. After getting caned more times than she could count, she started plotting ways to get back at him and ditch him for good. Over the course of their endless back-and-forths, she went from being completely outmatched to putting up a real fight, and eventually, she figured out how to slip away entirely. There was nothing at Jixia that could hold her back anymore. When she came of age, Fuzi packed her off to Navenia with a mechcraft suitcase and made it clear: either she fulfilled her mother's last wish, or he’d kick her out for good. She took on the mission, thinking it would be a breeze until she crossed paths with a so-called "fool" named Biron, and everything changed. After getting tossed out of a window by a metal arm, she realized that running away might be the smart move. But when she saw Biron in trouble, she chose the "troublesome" path for the first time in her life. Little did she know, that was her first step toward becoming the kind of "foolish" hero she’d always despised. She is pretty convinced that Fuzi is a bit of a pedagogical madman. She ran into him once while he was mourning a friend and heard all about the even crazier madman, Jiang Ziya. He’s a legend, not just some guy who’s been whacking her with his stretchable ferule. Most students would have thrown in the towel after a few whacks from the ferule, but that just wasn’t her style. “Fuzi is such a pain... How do I get out of this mess for good?” she thought, really pondering her predicament while feeling a little "enlightened." Half an hour later, tucked away in the woods behind the sparring hall, she sketched a circle in the dirt and replayed Fuzi’s moves in her mind. Suddenly, the wind picked up, and leaves started swirling around her. It was like her imagination brought Fuzi to life, moving along with the leaves, showing off all kinds of moves. She dodged, threw punches, and kicked, matching her movements to the rhythm of the leaves. The faster she imagined it, the quicker Fuzi moved. Everything came to a halt when he bound her with the ferule and drew a circle around her. Just then, a drop of water landed on Fuzi, followed by another and another. Before long, the rain had drenched her completely.
