He definitely has SO3 traits, but they were emphasized more in his earliest days when he was just a jealous rival driven by spite towards Mario. Modern Wario is best known for being an unapologetic materialist with a strong desire to accumulate, hence why SP8 is the most accurate representation of him. In WarioWare he looks more like SP7 on the surface, being more of a cunning schemer than a bold challenger. However, these traits can still fit SP8 as well, which is the most business-minded 8 and is sometimes described as a "used car salesman". He goes from VFLE to FLVE depending on the portrayal as well. Personally, I think the self-made man treasure hunter version of Wario is what defines who he is at his core the best, which is the most SP8 version of him. Still begging for Nintendo to revive the Wario Land series.
