Arya Buitenzorg, a halfblood Morgan-Native Batavien teenager who was sent to school in the Greater Morgan, realized that his Homeland: Batavien was a Morgan colony and that the indigenous people there were treated unfairly. His views on humanity changed after learning what the Morgan government created the Death Beam project for. Arya begins to question the colonialist ideas he has been taught and feels that there is something wrong with this system.
