Personality
What personality type is Colin (Armsmaster)? Colin (Armsmaster) is an personality type in MBTI, 3w4 - sp/so - in Enneagram, in Big 5, in Socionics.
5 fix over 1. See this quote from Interlude 24: "Colin knew he had been the weird child. Had never made friends, had convinced himself he didn’t want or need them. He was efficient in how solitary he was. He’d even prided himself on it, for a time, that there was nothing to hold him back. That he could, should the mood strike him, pick up and leave at any time. He’d modeled his life around it, had led a spare existence, devoid of the little touches of home, of roots. He’d saved money so he had the ability to travel, to get a new place in a new city if the mood struck. It had even been an asset when he had joined the Protectorate, the ability to relocate, take any open position. It was only now, a full fifteen years later, that he started to wonder what he’d missed out on. Did most people know how to handle this sort of thing? The absence of someone they cared about? Did they have an easier time handling the moments when they weren’t sure if they’d ever see those people again, or was it harder?" This is VERY 5-like (the focus on being solitary and withdrawn because of the need for competence and avarice making it so you can be independent without relying on or needing anything). I wouldn't even find it weird to type him as a 5 with a strong 3 fix rather than the other way around. In contrast 1 fix just seems to be based on him being a "righteous hero" or at least seeing himself as that way following the rules of the protectorate, as well as generic things that apply to all competency types and him being triple competency. I would also go with social 3 over sp. Yes he is a bit withdrawn as a person, but sp 3 is more than just the "socially awkward" 3, in fact they can be less cold and more helpful than social 3s. Armsmaster's ambition and seeking higher and higher levels of prestige in the protectorate rather than just trying to be the best at what he is seems more typical of the social subtype.
