as a person who lives in a city full of light pollution and constantly in a hustling bustling state, I never got to enjoy stargazing wholly. on the occasional clear night sky, I'd spot orion's belt and excitedly point it out to my friends, who'd give me an underwhelming nod, not even bothering to look at what I'm pointing to. so when I got the chance to go to Indonesia, at a resort that had a peaceful, glamping theme, I couldn't resist lying underneath the stars on a beanbag, using my phone's app to locate the different constellations. it was the most magical time of my life. I spotted the orion constellation first, and then my very own zodiac constellation, and many more to follow. I'd appreciate the flickering Sirius, the brightest star in the sky (aside from the Sun), and Mars, which could be seen as an orange toned star. I think the reason why I enjoyed it so much was because of the closeness you get from seeing the sky as it is. its a "so close but so far" kind of feeling, but yet its something that gives me satisfaction. being under the space littered with glitter puts things into perspective. you'll see the scale of the world against yourself, and it reminds me that nothing really matters in the end. its an escape into a fantasy world for that period of time, away from all the noisy, arrogant and self centered people in the world. I also desperately tried getting pictures of the constellations I spotted, only to receive blurry images that look like dust particles against a black wall. that was when I decided that while I wanted to keep as many memories through photographs of that beautiful session, nothing beats looking at the night sky with one's own eyes. so I put my phone down, and wholeheartedly gazed at the stars, looking at each one with loving smiles. I felt so much closeness with the galaxy, being one with nature and and felt so much respect for the universe too. I was just one tiny human being that lives for a tiny amount of time in this world, so I might as well just enjoy it.
