xNTP makes sense I guess. He seems to value both Ne and Ti aspects, wanting to write his own articles and research as a "free spirit" (Ne) while also dedicated to finding the truth through deduction and analysis (Ti). Arguments for INTP: I think someone with auxiliary rather than dominant Ne would have been more likely to slam the brakes on publishing John's past because he is worried about the consequences. An ENTP may be like, "screw the consequences, I want to create chaos". Ne doms are more optimistic about future possibilities and think everything will work out no matter what. Isen put his Ti judgment first, "no matter how exciting this information is, this guy is obviously too dangerous to push into a corner". Arguments for ENTP His general trolling vibe does seem very ENTP.
