What personality type is Grimlock? Grimlock is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - so/sx - 873 in Enneagram, SLUEN in Big 5, SLE in Socionics.
Grimlock is a very fun personality to analyze, he gets a lot of action in every season, and even with his simple mind, has a big personality. With his simple mind, he shows tendencies of an unhealthy ESTP, but after becoming a genius in that one episode, he shows signs of a healthy ESTP. There is a strong argument for ESFP, as he is often unpredictable and his loyalties depend on his emotions. His Se dom is very apparent, he focuses on what's around him, and acts impulsively, and his fellow Dinobots do the same. He has a very loud and large presence in a room, and commands power, and demands action. He does not care about the consequences, This action can be further amplified through his hatred of Optimus Prime's leadership. In War of the Dinobots, Grimlock and his Dinobots are manipulated easily by Megatron into overthrowing Optimus, and he commands them with intent of action and no plans. His auxiliary Ti is not very obvious given his simple mind, but his distaste of Optimus' leadership is driven by how he KNOWS he is more capable with his brute force and sheer power. His reaction to Starscream (who is miscolored as Thundercracker lol) calling him an Autobot slave in that same episode was one of distaste. He realized that assumption was false, going against his "me, Grimlock" mentality, and retaliated by shooting back. This Ti auxiliary becomes more obvious when Grimlock eventually trusts Optimus after he protects him from the exploding meteor, analyzing the qualities that make him a good leader. As ESTP is a very easy type to get jealous, Grimlock's apology for being jealous, over immaturity, not protectiveness, of Optimus solidifies that cognitive locomotion. Another good example of Grimlock using auxiliary Ti is when he comes up with the brilliant idea to convince the dinosaurs to help out the Dinobots in Dinobot Island, Pt. 2, by using his Se to notice the dinosaurs in his environment first, then his Ti to come up with his battle plans. Grimlock is an ESTP over an ESFP, because if he functioned via auxiliary Fi, he would be more likely to be manipulated by Megatron and switch to the Decepticon side. We get to see Grimlock's intellectual side, especially his auxiliary Ti, during the Season 3 episode where he spontaneously creates Computron. Being observant, analytical, and practical, he applies the principles he "learns" by assisting the Autobots with quick problem solving even Perceptor is unable to do. He is a very strong Enneagram type 8w7 as he's always raring to go into action and enjoys taking part in violence against whoever he wants to fight. He's not afraid to tackle challenges head on. In earlier seasons, Grimlock seems like a pure Choleric type, but in Season 3, we can see his mascot-like personality, revealing his Sanguine side.
