Biography
Víctor Jara was a Chilean (of peasant origin) singer-songwriter. After the coup d'état that overthrew the government of Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973, Jara was arrested the next day by the Armed Forces of the newly established military dictatorship, due to his militancy in the Communist Party of Chile. He was tortured by cutting off his fingers and tongue so that he could not play his guitar or sing while being insulted. After four days, he was killed with more than forty shots at the former Chile Stadium
