Biography
In Japanese mythology, Izanami no mikoto (Japanese: 伊弉冉尊 or 伊邪那美命, meaning "she who invites") is a goddess of both creation and death, as well as the former wife of the god Izanagi-no-mikoto. She is also referred to as Izanami no kami. She was once a most beautiful Kami, but after her death during the birth of Kagu-tsuchi, she became trapped in Yomi (the underworld). Though Izanagi pursued to rescue her, he abandoned Izanami after discovering her terrifying transformation. Since then Izanami vowed to kill millions of humans for Izanagi's betrayal, while he countered her by giving life to an equal amount more.
