Ty Cobb MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Ty Cobb? Ty Cobb is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 8w7 - sp/sx - 863 in Enneagram, in Big 5, SLE in Socionics.

Reserved > Social. Cobb had almost no friends throughout his entire life, and he very distinctly lacked charisma. He was extremely assertive, outspoken, and leader-like, yes, but all accounts point to him being very un-enthusiastic about literally everything, keeping others at a (very large) distance, and lacking any kind of good humor. Limbic > Calm. Everyone knows about Cobb's violent temper; he got offended by everything that impugned upon his honor and beat people up at the drop of a hat. He also apparently suffered from a nervous breakdown near the beginning of his career, and felt intensely lonely later on in life. Organized > Unstructured. Cobb was extremely careful with his money, evidently worked very hard as a player, and didn't drink too heavily (until his later years) so as to be more game-ready. He was also a highly meticulous batting coach. E > A. Where to start? “The Georgia Peach was a southern Protestant who hated northerners, Catholics, blacks and apparently anybody else who was different from him. And, in turn, opponents (and some teammates) despised him. They disliked his aggressive behavior, his attitude, his maniacal will to succeed…In spring training in 1907, Cobb…fought a groundskeeper over the condition of the Tigers' spring training field in Augusta, Ga., and ended up choking the man's wife when she intervened…Cobb's outbursts didn't stop just because he no longer played baseball. He continued to argue with waitresses, cashiers, customs officials, policemen and old friends. When he drank, his behavior was even worse…Only four people from baseball attended his funeral…In summing up his life to Stump, Cobb stated ‘I had to fight all my life to survive. They all were against me, tried every dirty trick to cut me down. But I beat the bastards and left them in the ditch.’” N > I. Cobb was pretty highly intelligent and a big reader, but he didn’t have any overwhelming artistic or intellectual interests. He was an extremely canny ballplayer and a highly successful investor, but very concrete in his interests/lifestyle.
