Elphaba Thropp MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Elphaba Thropp? Elphaba Thropp is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 4w3 - sp/sx - 451 in Enneagram, RLOEI in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.

Just saw the musical for the fifth time after being a huge fan of it for the past 20 years! My analysis is based on that— I’ve never read the book. First of all, Elphaba is 100% Ni-dominant; she has a lot of intuition about things she doesn’t have direct evidence for (such as her sister being in danger in Act II). However, I see a lot of Fi in her as well; she is fiercely loyal to her personal values and standing up for the underdog, even when it challenges convention or exiles her from society. I also sense the auxiliary Te in her; she wants to protect and look out for her sister Nessa in a practical sort of way. In the nine years between now and when I’d previously seen the musical, I would’ve concluded her core type as One. However, I’ve changed my mind since seeing it again— I think her primary Harmonic Group is Reactive rather than Competency— she is frequently temperamental, and this is precisely what triggers her “sorcery outbursts” in Act I. Therefore, I think her Core Type is Four. There is a steady motivation in her throughout the show to find a positive identity for herself and to overcome Shame and find a sense of belonging. She is well aware of how she is seen as a misfit and an outcast, and she is quite defensive about it, while also longing to defend others who, like her, are socially misunderstood. As far as Tritypes are concerned, I think 416 makes a lot of sense: Elphaba is Double Frustration (1 & 4), Double Compliant (1 & 6), and Double Reactive (4 & 6).
