What personality type is Cloud Strife? Cloud Strife is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 4w3 - sp/sx - 469 in Enneagram, RLUEI in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.
Major Spoilers for FF7 below. Be warned. Cloud Strife is the epitome of the INFP 4w3. He actually starts out the game pretending to be someone he isn't but slowly over the course of the game he reveals his true personality and it's nothing like how he presents himself at the beginning of the game. In the beginning of the game he tries to come off as a stereotypical ISTP. He's pretty logical, grounded in reality, and he's almost emotionless. All he cares about is getting money for himself (Ti) and having fun in the mercenary missions he's hired to go on (Se). He even says the most inferior Fe lines about not caring about the planet and only caring about the paycheck he gets for helping the group AVALANCHE. Everything he does is for his own self benefit and he's pretty logical about things. He's also completely grounded in reality and focuses on the present moment a lot. "I'd worry less about the planet and more about the next five seconds. Save the screaming for later." (I'm not saying every ISTP has Fe this underdeveloped, but Cloud is trying to come off strong so he acts emotionless.) Later on it's revealed slowly over the course of the game that Cloud is actually really emotional and cares too much about everything. As a kid he just wanted to feel special and be a famous a hero. He was jealous of the kids around him and wanted to be the one that Tifa liked but she only hung out with them. Then he started resenting them all and thinking they were stupid. As a Fi dom he never fits in with people due to their hidden feelings and subjective opinions derived from the self. This is where his 4 core comes in. The E4 wants desperately to be special and unique, to assert their individuality and be noticed for it. When they don't get this like Cloud, they become jealous of others for being special. You can also somewhat see Cloud's jealousy and desire to become special when it comes to Sephiroth. Sephiroth was Cloud's childhood hero and was the most famous SOLDIER on the planet. Cloud aspired to be like him but never got into SOLDIER. He becomes a mere body guard for the company Shinra and when he meets the SOLDIER Zack, Zack becomes his new idol and he wants to be as successful as him (this is where the 3 wing comes in because 3s desire success and achievement.) After Zack dies he tells Cloud to become his living legacy. Cloud takes this in the most literal sense and copes with his hero's death by adopting Zack's life (Tert Si) and using it to create his false backstory for the rest of the game (Aux Ne.) He tells everyone in AVALANCE that he is a 1st Class SOLDIER like Zack was and mixes his own fantasies with Zack's life. His Ne usage is so unhealthy and detached from reality. He even goes as far as to say as "If everything's a dream, don't wake me." People who say he's in a Fi-Si loop are insane because his Ne is so obvious. His Fi is actually pretty healthy as an adult he cares insanely a lot about everyone close to them and cherishes them. As soon as Sephiroth is revealed to be alive Cloud actually reveals he cares deeply about the planet and holds a personal grudge against Sephiroth because he killed everyone he cared about and doesn't want anyone else to suffer that (Fi.) In Advent Children which is the sequel movie to FF7 Cloud says the most Fi dom quote ever and reveals how deeply emotional he is "I pity you. You just don't get it at all. There's not a thing I don't cherish!" Anything Cloud cares about he is deeply emotionally attached to and wants to protect with all his life. And he's not using Ne in a delusional detached from reality way anymore. Now he just tries to live a life as a family man and accepts who he is. He's the perfect subversion of a video game protagonist who are all usually macho men. He's deeply emotional and fragmented, but by the end he gets healthier and becomes a badass. Very motivational character and has a great arc.
Biography
The main protagonist of Final Fantasy VII. A former First Class member of SOLDIER, the Shinra Electric Power Company's elite task force. Now working as a mercenary, he takes a job to help the anti-Shinra movement, Avalanche, take down his former employers by sabotaging one of the mako reactors powering the city of Midgar. In battle, Cloud wields the Buster Sword, a massive broadsword nearly as big as his body.
