Holden Caulfield MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Holden Caulfield? Holden Caulfield is an INFP personality type in MBTI, 4w5 - sx/sp - 468 in Enneagram, SLUEI in Big 5, IEE in Socionics.

I know that his character is intentionally written to be annoying, preachy, and unsympathetic most of the time--and I certainly think there are more interesting characters in literature--but there's still something about Holden that I find somewhat sympathetic. I can't deny that he's mentally unwell and troubled, a clear example of dominant Fi to an unhealthy extreme, but his relationship with his sister Phoebe and his protectiveness of children--even if clearly overblown--shows, in my opinion, that Holden isn't too bad of a guy deep down. He's isolated from virtually everyone: his younger brother died in a tragic way, and his older brother, in Holden's mind, abandoned him; his teachers that we see are overbearing, comically old and bedridden on one side, and potentially pedophilic (though I'd like to think not, as Mr. Antolini is a nice guy otherwise) on the other side; and his "friends" come across as nuisances and violate his moral standards. None of this excuses Holden's behavior and mindset, but it does show the depth of the trauma he's undergone and makes me at least feel a little sympathetic for him
