As much as I would love for her to be an ESTP, if you read the books, you can clearly extrapolate that she’s not. Her Te dom was made evident in the books, by apprising the readers of her love of control, she blatantly murdered a horse solely because he wouldn’t listen to her, and was quite diverted by watching him bleed to death. In Rebecca’s tale, the sequel, it was clear she orchestrated a plan in order to marry Maxim, who was the supposed heir of Manderley. After she was taken advantage of by a boy, she made it an onus to exploit and inflict pain on most of the men in her life. Maxim just so happened to be the subject of that pain. She feigned an affable persona towards people of high status which might make people think she has Fe, but in her journal extracts, it’s made evident that she only did that to maintain her power over Maxim (Te), who couldn’t divorce her because it would cause a disgrace to his family, not because she was such an “affable” person which she never was and everyone knew that. Everyone was aware that she was abrasive, they all admired her for her valiance and confidence. That’s why he couldn’t leave her and it’s been evident in the book, Let’s not forget the fact that she was incredibly callous, and abrasive towards the people who were of lower status than hers. In Manderly, she set a plethora of new traditions such as the ball, and set new rules. She even said herself “those rules are antiquated, and need to be altered as time changes.” “I innovate, I do things differently from how they were done before, I bring change.” These statements clearly insinuate that she fosters Ni auxiliary. She had a clear goal, she wanted to be seen as powerful, and wanted to assert dominance. She was keen on hosting balls and implementing renovations on manderley, which were initially only done by the patriarchs of the family. She didn’t do these things because she enjoyed, she did them, because it clearly showed she had power over Maxim, and Manderley, which further cements her Dom Te. In the extract of her journal, she was seen being impulsive from time to time, this was strong, but not as strong as her Ni, or Te. So she can’t be an Se dom. In the extracts when she was younger, Se was barely visible, and it was predominantly Te. As everyone knows, The tertiary function comes in later in life, and same was the case with Rebecca. Her Fi was shown when she was taken advantage of by a boy when she was younger, and all the things that occurred after that. She only sympathized with herself, and then later manipulated all the men she came in contact with. That there epitomizes her Fi inferior. In the plays and the movies, we don’t see an in depth evaluation of Rebecca, we either see her being extolled for her sublime beauty, or being abased for her despicable character which is only done by other people. So, inevitably it’s going to be hard to extrapolate a clear consensus, that’s why she may come off as an ESTP, or even an ENFJ for that matter, but after a little scrutinization of the books, and the movie (they altered a lot of things there, so that may also contribute to her enigmatic personality) you can tell she’s an ENTJ.
