Rei Sakuma MBTI Personality Type

Personality

What personality type is Rei Sakuma? Rei Sakuma is an INFJ personality type in MBTI, 5w4 - sx/so - 594 in Enneagram, RCOAI in Big 5, IEI in Socionics.

[1/2] — Rei is SX5 > SO2. The fact that Rei's childhood was defined by high expectations set for him juxtaposed against his self-perceived "tiny existence" and fear of being weak tells me that SX5 is a much better fit than SO2 is. SO2 is defined by its self-aggrandizement and inflated self-image which directly contradicts Rei's self perception as a "demon" or "monster". Typing him this way completely disregards where his actions of service stem from -- rather than a need for power in the social sphere and seeking others to fuel ones own pride, Rei's actions majorly stem from a neurotic need to meet external expectations. The expectations of others is a key aspect of E5 -- contrasting the SP5's instinct to isolate oneself wholly and withdraw into its own castle, SX5 presents a marked push-and-pull of the SX instinct needing to form connections and needing people, clashing with the E5's passion of avarice; that is, to withdraw to avoid depletion. This can manifest in acts of service masking an extreme sense of fear, otherness, and guilt. — “Inevitably, the flight from conflict leads to a strategy of adaptability. By not confronting, he gives too much room to the needs of the other, pretending to show true dedication, when this is not the case. … This neurotic adaptability coexists with the irrational belief that "it is better to withdraw than try to adapt," behind which lies yet another crazy idea: "The other does not matter so much, with his needs."” (Avaricia) These contrasting lines of thought can be seen so clearly in Rei, who is characterized as some sort of “god-like” figure in his need to accommodate for others, unable to resist external demands and conforming out of fear of being deemed a failure — or even further than that, others being aware of “how small and weak he truly was.” (Operetta. TL by bakemonoremy) The new story—the Altered event—interestingly elaborates on his old man persona. Referencing Heaven or Hell Ch. 24, it’s revealed that Ore!Rei desired to be executed by Eichi to have a chance to “die” and be reborn as someone new; someone who isn’t idolized at the very top, someone who isn’t pressured by the crushing expectations of human beings. Why would any SO2 try to escape this image? SO2 thrives in an environment where its pride can be fed and it can exert influence over the social sphere. Rei was in this very position and vehemently sought escapism; overwhelmed by external expectations, this is exactly what SX5 defines. Rei taking on the persona of an old man in his third year is a culmination of the passion of avarice exceeding his ability to adapt. 🦇 Rei: “I couldn't have been happier that you were lookin' to put an end to this boring *** life of mine. The one who wanted Sakuma Rei of the Five Eccentrics subjugated the most was me. Do me a favour and crush him beneath your feet. Grind him to dust, rid the world of him.” (Heaven or Hell 24. TL by iridesenescence.) 🦇 Rei: “Yeah, I was trapped by my own persona. The persona of the superstar everyone looks up to, Sakuma Rei-chan. That's why I'm trying t' get rid of him, and find something new.” (Heaven or Hell 24. TL by iridesenescence.) E5 as a whole is defined by its inability to meet the expectations of others and complete self-isolation as a result. Rather than SO2’s gregariousness and pride in being idolized and relied on by the masses, Rei had an extremely polarizing relationship with this status of his and ultimately chose to forsake it for the sake of self-preservation. Besides the obvious issue of Pride vs Avarice in regards to Rei, the smaller differences in each type is clear. A trait of E2 is its lack of intellectualism; whilst admittedly SO2 is the most intellectual of the E2s, it will first and foremost seduce using emotionality. Rei, on the other hand, was hailed as a savant from a young age due to his intellect. Knowledge orientation and aptitude in such fields is not only characteristic of head center types, but a key aspect of E5 in general. It could be said that the E5 hoards knowledge to counteract its fear of depletion. Rei’s also prone to self-inflicted ostracism in describing himself as a demon, monster, or something other than human. This directly conflicts with SO2's self-aggrandizement and exalted self-image. In fact, I would go as far to say that Rei is not even 2 fixed. This consistent theme of his denigrated self-image in relation to others in society—those he deems as “human”—is much more in line with a 4 fix, a type defined by its unshakeable degraded self-concept, its self-victimization, and tendency to see itself as something “separate” from society as large.
