Mira grew up wanting to be a rider, and according to Violet, by the time Mira was 20 she had been training in hand to hand combat for twelve years. Prior to the events in Fourth Wing, Mira earned the Order of the Talon for her role in the Battle of Strythemore. She was then sent to patrol the border with the Eastern Wing as Lieutenant in the Navarrian military. When she's first introduced in Fourth Wing, according Violet, Mira hasn't seen her sister in years. Presumably since Mira entered the Riders Quadrant and graduated.
