Biography
The Pygmalion Effect is a psychological phenomenon where higher expectations placed on individuals lead to an increase in their performance. It's a form of self-fulfilling prophecy where the beliefs or expectations of others—such as teachers, managers, or authority figures—about an individual's capabilities influence the individual's behavior and performance, causing them to conform to these expectations. For example, if a teacher believes that certain students are exceptionally bright and treats them accordingly, these students might perform better academically due to the higher expectations placed upon them, regardless of their actual ability. Conversely, if low expectations are set for certain individuals, they might fulfill those expectations and perform worse than their actual potential.
