What personality type is Midge? Midge is an ISFJ personality type in MBTI, 6w5 - so/sp - 612 in Enneagram, RCOAN in Big 5, ESI in Socionics.
What we have here (and with many other characters voted E6) is a misconception and oversimplification of the E6 fear passion. I am not going to be completing this argument right now or delving much into why she's an E9, but will be stating why E6 doesn't make sense. I'll probably make another argument for why she's IS(F)/ISFJ some other time, as the IT(N)/INTP votes concern me. I can see the logic behind voting her EN(F)/ENFP because of her cheerful nature and creativity, but I still don't think she is an Ne type. And no, she's not just an Si type because she's old-fashioned. That being an argument for her not being an Si type is not just unsound, but shows a lack of understanding of Si. But anyway, moving on for now. Needless to say, I'm befuddled by this highly melancholic consensus for her. SO6 and Melancholic (Dominant)? I'm surprised that she's not even voted as having a 7 wing at the very least. Midge is a calm, lighthearted, and cheerful character. Now I can see why people think Midge is a 6 because E6 is just known as the "fearful type." But there is so much more than that to 6. The fear passion revolves around the idea that there are enemies out there and that one must protect themselves through internal systems of logic. Other than being aware of danger, an orientation to authority, and liking stability (the last two characteristics fit E9 just as well), Midge does not display the E6 fear passion. Firstly, she does not exhibit anxiety. She's aware of danger, but she's not actively fearful. She has a calm and merry temperament. SO6 is a serious and dogmatic type. The SO6 is rigid, inflexible, and cold. They're melancholic and serious. They abide by a strict code of conduct and are far from as casual and jolly as Midge is. I used to consider SP6 for her, as it's the more warm, easygoing, and sensitive E6 subtype, but she doesn't seek out alliances for protection and still, she does not display fear as a passion. She is confident in her abilities and isn't reliant on others for protection. Additionally, E6 has a theoretical orientation and is a highly abstract type. They don't just do things like build moats to avoid the tide. They use internal logical systems to ward off and rationalize fear. This following of their own logic systems is partially what makes them so reserved and (with the exception of SP6) pugnacious. 6s are also highly suspicious of others and their motivations. This is what leads to their coldness (and warmth in the case of SP6, since SP6s are trying to avoid people's wrath). Midge never exhibits suspiciousness. She's shown to be perfectly trusting of others, as well as calm and chipper in social settings. Now, as for the logic aspect, Midge likes Sodoku, crossword puzzles, and following the rules. But the forms of logic she uses are not the types of logic E6 and the Ti type do. Midge's liking for brain games and orientation to authority are perfectly aligned with both E9 and Si. I won't be going too much into Si, but the Si type enjoys comfort and repetition. They're drawn to comfortable activities and routine, and this is why they often enjoy things like crafts. The logic games that Midge does aren't because she's drawn to the realm of subjective logic like a Ti type is. The emphasis with her is on comfortable activities and routine. This is also very much aligned with E9. 9s crave stability, comfort, repetition, and harmonious surroundings. They're also very conscious of authority and abiding by the rules. Like Midge, they do this because of their conformity and avoidance of conflict. Midge doesn't follow rules due to having strict codes of conduct and logic, and a fear of others. She has a liking of comfort and harmony, and thus doesn't make waves and ensures she's keeping herself in line. I don't even think she has a 6 fix. I think she has a 7 fix. She has an upbeat and distractible demeanor, and shows a good deal of gluttony for things like shopping and food. She's easily enchanted and very suggestible. A good example of all these traits is in the "Mall Mayhem" episode. As I said before, I will be adding to and refining this argument, as well as making a separate argument for why she's IS(F)/ISFJ when I have more time, but I will be stopping for now.
