Margaret “Meg” March MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Margaret “Meg” March? Margaret “Meg” March is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 2w3 - so/sx - 296 in Enneagram, SCOAN in Big 5, ESE in Socionics.
Meg March is a clear ESFJ / EF(S) type. I will not be elaborating on that anymore, because there are many solid arguments of her MBTI/Jungian type. What I will be focusing on is her Enneagram type, since I want to shed more light on that. Margaret "Meg" March is a 3w2 sx/sp because she wants to present a desirable, attractive image of femininity. She is sweet, gentle, and thoughtful. She aims to be a perfect child, an ideal wife, and a model mother. We can see that she dreams of building a family and mothering two children, even if both Jo and Aunt March oppose her. She feels that she has to act like an exemplary feminine figure to be rewarded by her family. This reflects how she compensates for her fears and insecurities by perfecting an ideal image. Compared to a SO3, she is not as expansive although she has drive and ambition, because she prioritizes her family circle more. Her need for success manifests in her efficiency, which she channels in organizing household spaces and caring for her sisters, children, and her husband. She does want others to protect and care for her, even if she overextends herself in tending to others' needs. These behaviors reflect vanity as she is dependent on what her family and 1800s American society think of her. She molds an image that she thinks everyone would perceive as impressive, so others will value her. This character believes that she has to work hard to be recognized or acknowledged. Despite appearing confident, she still feels envious. She is upset of having to lose the family's riches after the American Civil War sent her father to the frontlines. The passion of deceit also applies to her, as she tries to appear beautiful in public to be recognized, even if it costs her health and safety. Another example of her perfectionism in her physical appearance is her stressing over her skin being a little more blemished after the March father left. Moreover, she also attempted to buy an expensive silk dress just so she can feel rich -- on the same level as Sallie and her other friends. For Enneagram fixes, I think 1 fix works well because she's quite critical and perfectionistic with herself and her sisters. She constantly reminds Jo to act ladylike and dress presentably for events. She also "rated" her sisters' performance in abiding by the March family's ethical code, in which she said that Amy is "middling", Jo is "inconsistent" and Beth is "good". Moreover, she keeps the family organized and aware of their responsibilities. She gives moral support and advice to her sisters to help them go through hard times and fix their mistakes. 6 fix works because she seeks security through cooperating with others and fulfilling familial obligations. She's protective of other people, especially those considered as underdogs. She's also keen on establishing rules to promote order and stability in her environments. She dislikes laziness, and prefers to have a concrete plan on how events will go. She has a traditional mindset, which shows in her aversion to some unorthodox behaviors, like Jo's expressions of "Capital!" and "Christopher Colombus".
