Biography

Cimon was an Athenian statesman, general and citizdn who is estimated that he had lived from 510 BC to 450 BC. He was the son of Miltiades the Younger, another prominent Athenian general, most famous from his decisive victory at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC. He rose into prominence in the first half of 5th centuy BC as a renowned general and politician, whose main policy was to weaken the Persian Empire through excessive clash, and strengthen Athens' ties with its hereditary enemy, Sparta. He was exiled at one point, but he was much needed, so he was recalled and he died while besieging Cyprus. His main political rivals were Themistocles and Pericles, another prominent Athenian statesmen.
