Biography

The Mouse is a character who in the chapter three talks to Alice when she is floating in a pool of her own tears, having shrunk in size but with the no response of The Mouse, Alice fears that it may not speak English and attempts to speak French. Upon mentioning the French word for cat, chatte, The Mouse panics. This leads goes to The Mouse offers to tell Alice his history, being with the pharse: "Mine is a long and a sad tale!" and making Alice think that it means its tail, so that she pictures its recitation in the form of a twisted, tail-like shape. In the tale, the Mouse (speaking of itself in the third person) explains how a cur called Fury proposes the pastime of condemning it to death, himself serving as both judge and jury. Although the Mouse claims that the "tale" will explain why he hates cats and dogs, the only villain in the printed poem is a dog; there is no actual explanation for the Mouse's animosity toward cats. However, Alice's Adventures Under Ground, the 1863 handwritten version of Alice in Wonderland, contains a different poem at this point (beginning, "We lived beneath the mat,/ Warm and snug and fat./ But one woe & that/ Was the cat!") which includes both cats and dogs as the enemies of the mice. Whatever that it is doesn't matter because the story does not resonate with Alice, who is confused and bored by The Mouse(although if she had listened to his tale, she may have avoided her own trial) at this reaction of part of Alice, a really strange girl, (thing that the person who write this is not) The Mouse get angry with Alice for not paying antencion, and then he goes.
