Personality

What personality type is Paul McCartney? Paul McCartney is an ESFJ personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - so/sp - 371 in Enneagram, SCOAI in Big 5, ESE in Socionics.

If you look at descriptions of Paul from 1960s magazine articles written by those who knew him well, viewing him as a Fi dom is borderline inconcievable. Here's a bunch of such descriptions that I found on the Rock's Backpages database (along with some annotations I made): "Basically, he is a warm, responsive person, whom I have always thought the friendliest of the four." (While this doesn't prove anything, Fe doms are often described using words like "warm," "responsive" and "friendly.") "He is tall, agile, neatly dressed, and well-organized. His hair is never too long and he is never at a loss for words." (ISFPs have a lot of really positive qualities. "Well-organized" is not one of them.) "He is interested enough in people to notice things about them. He cares about people, and what they think of him, and what he thinks of them." (This is essentially the definition of Fe.) "He is a professional charmer, a prolific ideas man, the more commercially-aware composer of the Lennon-McCartney collaboration combine." (Again, doesn't prove anything, but far more suggestive of Fe than Fi.) "John is the Beatle who hates phoney praise, but Paul may well welcome its reassurance even if he recognises its falseness. He both flatters and responds to flattery." (Find me a Fi dom that would respond well to fake praise and hand it out in return. That goes against the very nature of the function. If you want a smoking gun for "not an IxFP," this is it.) "He was the one who could be counted upon to wink at the girls in the audience with an amazing amount of regularity." (The ability to consistently give the audience what they want is a Fe trait.) "He has never suggested it, but I think that his particular and personal hell would be loneliness." (While nobody likes being lonely, having loneliness as a "personal hell" seems most consistent with high Fe.) "His life bustles more than those of his fellow Beatles. He makes and keeps more friends (as against the thousands of transient acquaintances), arranges more appointments, accepts more invitations, and goes to more theatres." (AKA, a description of a prototypical Fe dom.) "He is an intelligent self-organizer, growing intolerant of inefficiency at domestic, business and public levels." (Again, I've never seen a Fi dom, or indeed any IxxP type, be thought of as being particularly organized. Dominant Fe and Te users, on the other hand, particularly when combined with auxiliary Si...) As far as I'm concerned, the only real debate to be had here is between Si/Ne and Ni/Se. But there's really a stronger case for any of the four ExxJ types than there is for ISFP.
