What personality type is Sans? Sans is an ENTP personality type in MBTI, 9w8 - sp/so - 952 in Enneagram, SCUAI in Big 5, ILE in Socionics.
Both E9 and E5 are very good options, but I'm leaning towards E5, and I'll attempt to explain. What we know about Sans is that a lot about him is concealed, he observes your behavior on the sidelines to confront you later, and he has been researching things like time travel. I feel like some of the underlying motivation for his behavior is avarice, since he seems to be very hands off in how deals with Frisk, and I don't think this comes from a place of indolence. In the genocide run, Sans adopts his position as an observer that doesn't interfere until the very end, and is extremely vague with Frisk, being a very private and enigmatic person. The reason for this could very likely be that he is too attached to viewing things from a safe distance, and that he is too attached to his privacy to be straightforward with Frisk. Sans has knowledge that he keeps to himself, until he detaches from what his avarice encourages him to guard so closely, in his boss fight specifically. He shares all of the knowledge he has acquired about time travel, and his philosophy regarding it, finally taking control of the situation and utilizing all of his power before Frisk (Chara) kills Asgore. The virtue of detachment shows itself here, and his point of development is going from a passive observation to sacrifice, not just sacrificing his own life, but his own metaphorical greed. Sans is generally quite detached, which could be seen as narcotization, but Sans doesn't seem to want to numb himself to the problem, but sees himself as useless, and Chara as an inevitable threat that he cannot stop. He adopts his sense of nihilism because he is unable to do anything, not because he doesn't want to acknowledge it (9s being positive types, and having the passion of sloth).
