Tarkan MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Tarkan? Tarkan is an ENTJ personality type in MBTI, 1w9 - - 145 in Enneagram, in Big 5, SEE in Socionics.
*based off English translation of the novel I feel like Tarkan’s an ENTJ instead of an ENTP; I’m not convinced he’s Ne-dom. He favors a very direct and confrontational communication style which is noticeable when he converses with Hamill, who is much more evasive with his words. ENTPs can also be direct, but they are much more accommodating with their tertiary Fe and generally have a higher awareness of the atmosphere and reacts accordingly. Instead, Tarkan controls situations by directly conveying what he wants (usually intimidating others in the process). Also, he usually misunderstands the underlying meaning of Aristine’s words and actions, which usually results in frustration besides curiosity. While stereotypical, I do believe there’s a grain of truth in how ENTPs are “known” for their love of novelty, and that they enjoy the journey of figuring out something much more than the end result. It’s clear that Tarkan’s curious about Aristine and what’s going on in her mind which is also a stereotypical ENTP trait, but instinctively, he quells any ideas of getting close to Aristine and rationalizes his approach towards her. Direct translated quotes: (At the beginning of the novel) “Don’t misunderstand…I didn’t do that because I like you or anything of the sort.” “What is it?” (Tarkan) “What do you mean?” (Aristine) “I believe you came to see me because you have something to say.” (Tarkan) “We are going to be a married couple soon, must there be a reason for me to have tea with you?” (Aristine) “Indeed, at least between you and me.” (Tarkan) “In [Tarkan’s] mind, he didn’t gain anything by concerning himself with this woman more than necessary and it was a useless venture.” Pragmatic, direct, and logic-oriented, leaning towards Te-dom (Conversation with Hamill) “It will sound like you have delusional jealousy if you keep acting like that.” (Hamill) “That’s nonsense,” Tarkan brushed off Hamill’s words, “What was with that weird formal speech earlier? It looks like you’re hiding your true nature and pretending to be gentle in front of Aristine but just so you know, that won’t work on her.” “What game are you playing?” (Tarkan) Confrontational and means what he says, unlike an ENTP who would probably be evasive. “Once Tarkan sat down at the head of the table, his aides swiftly began to give their report. They knew their lord hated wasting time.” “It doesn’t matter if you decided you were going to report it to me. What matters is if you actually reported it or not.” (Tarkan) “He was the type to always ask for succinct information about important parts alone.” “You even threatened, I mean, told me that if I waste your time one more time, you’ll use me as kindling for the fire instead.” Very direct communication and efficient, indicative of Te “Again, he wondered what in the world she was talking about but after some bafflement, he had a rough idea of what she meant. Women always wanted that sort of thing from him.” “Tarkan’s head hurt as he watched the woman babble on. Seriously, what kind of woman was this?” A line is drawn between Aristine’s Ne vs Tarkan’s Se, he is a realist and quickly draws conclusions while her thoughts are so wild and abstract it catches him off guard. “Tarkan peeked at Aristine to see her reaction. But he soon got annoyed. ‘It’s none of my business.’ Why does it matter what this woman thinks? She was just the person he was set to marry at the king’s order. She wasn’t important to him.” “Tarkan certainly intended to protect her, although this was based on the premise that she wasn’t a spy. As long as she was bound to him by marriage, this woman was his responsibility….Regardless of how Aristine was treated in Silvanus, it had nothing to do with him. Aristine was not Tarkan’s responsibility at the time nor did she have any relationship with him.” Irritated with his curiosity. Strong sense of responsibility based on external standards of marriage, despite his own reservations towards her. Defines his responsibility based on the start of his marriage. “Tarkan had never once in his life been ashamed of his own blood.” Fe-users, no matter how weak their function is, are attuned to social reputation; it will always be a part of them, no matter if they excel or struggle with it. Tarkan has little to no concern for it beyond meeting his goals.
