Jang Jaeyoung MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Jang Jaeyoung? Jang Jaeyoung is an ESTP personality type in MBTI, 3w2 - so/sx - 378 in Enneagram, SCUEI in Big 5, EIE in Socionics.
You know the meme "senpai pls notice me"? Well, Jaeyoung's character can be summarized as "For f*ck's sake, Sangwoo notice me". I don't agree with the ENTP/EIE consensus, I'm pretty sure he's an ESTP and I tend to consider him SEE (not really sure here tho). Why ESTP? Jaeyoung gets interested in Sangwoo because the latter forgets about him, his existence is not worth remembering. However, Se-dom e3 wants to be seen and to be looked at. His pranks can't be explained in a "let's see how he reacts lol" way (which would fit a Ne-user better), but there is a clear goal and he stops them as soon as he gets it: Sangwoo's awareness of his existence. Jaeyoung doesn't see a "possibility" to be Sangwoo's lover, on the contrary he has a very practical approach. Whenever Sangwoo made it clear that he doesn't want him around, he would back down. For example, after Sangwoo's reaction at Jaeyoung proposal to go to the cinema or when he thinks Sangwoo is only sexually attracted by him. In both cases, he thinks it's better to give up, because there is no concrete sign that Sangwoo is in for a relationship. Jaeyoung gets pulled in again though, whenever he receives a positive signal (in the first case, Sangwoo admits he reacted like that because he was confused, in the second case he admits he needs him). In other words, Jaeyoung needs actual data before acting, he doesn't enjoy going after someone on a whim or with unclear feelings. ESTP can be as chaotic and structure-less as ENTP. ENTP's inf-Si is above all a difficulty in self-care and personal management not a "omg this schedule is so tight" (this can happen with any type). ESTP's inf-Ni is a difficulty in planning and seeing future perspectives or consequences. Jaeyoung knows what he wants to do, but he's also very adaptable to the current circumstances, which is an Se skill. This is why, when he couldn't graduate and his plans were messed up, he was fairly cool about it, not angry or anxious. Now here for the shaky socionics part: similarly to Ne-dom votes, I believe his pranks influenced the EIE consensus. Here again, I think it is important to understand why he does what he does. EIE love to "charge" the emotional atmosphere, they want to proc an emotional reaction in their victims. I believe an EIE would be very bored by Sangwoo's lack of reactions though. He even goes out of his way to keep his emotions in check and look as stoic as possible. This makes me think he could be a Fe-polr, he's thick like a piece of wood when it comes to people, he refuses standard social etiquette (like the "I won't call you hyung" or the "why should I run errands for people older than me?" which are both great deals in Korean culture), his emotional expression is so stingy. But all this is actually part of what fascinates Jaeyoung. He doesn't prank him because he wants to see an emotional reaction, he pranks him because he wants to be noticed. He likes his aloofness, he likes his rigid antics, even though he gets annoyed often, but he doesn't want to change him, he just wants to be accepted by him. In other words, Se because he knows how to apply pressure to get what he wants, but Fi makes him good at calculating the social distance (as I said, he pulls away when he isn't wanted, he comes back when he's wanted). He also understands that he needs to be patient and wait for when Sangwoo will be ready. This doesn't mean he sits doing nothing, he knows Sangwoo would slip away soon if he doesn't continue to apply pressure on him with his presence, words, actions. I'm open to other opinions obv :)
