<Why Enneagram 2 Contradicts the Character of Yae Miko> [1/4] - Analysis - This is recycled from a previous argument, but it has been collecting dust having been made a few months ago. Months have passed, yet the same arguments have aged quite well, and still prove the intended point. As an introduction, there is an ongoing debate on whether Yae Miko is a Self-Preservation 7 or a Social 2. Both sides make the argument on how their enneagram is both hedonistic and manipulative. Surely there are traits that differentiate these two subtypes? The main point of this argument will be that subtypes...are subtypes. They still belong to an enneagram. You cannot cherry pick traits from subtypes that fit a character while disregarding the enneagram itself. Logic dictates that the two subtypes must have different traits, and when focusing on other traits, the Social Two falls behind. I use two sources. The part posted first being Claudio Naranjo, and second (coming soon for the sake of sanity) being Beatrice Chestnut. Two very prominent figures used as references for typing the Enneagram. Starting with Naranjo on the “Enneatype II”. “The glutton” and “the proud’ are references to sins of Gluttony and Pride, which Naranjo associates with E7 and E2 respectively. Stating the obvious,”Gluttony” is gluttonous and “Pride” is proud. Naranjo notes that “the proud seduces emotionally and the glutton intellectually.” Now arises a problem. “Miko guilt-trips people, she plays with their feelings, is her manipulation not “seducing emotionally??” However, the passage continues. Lifting from his section, “while the glutton is amiable and diplomatic, the proud can be either sweet or aggressive (so that, as I have sometimes remarked, their motto might be “make love and war”). Their narcissism also differs. We may say that the former is sustained through an intellectual apparatus: the activity of charlatanism in the broad sense of the word. In ennea-type II it is supported by a more naive falling in love with oneself, an emotional process of self-loving through identification with the glorified self-image and repression of the deprecated image.” Many can (rather painfully) agree that it doesn’t take a specific enneagram to gaslight someone. The consensus among communities is that this was Naranjo’s intent from stating how the E2 “seduces emotionally”. Describing not the method of seduction, but the state of the seductor themselves. How someone holds a letter with emotion, this logic falls in line with Naranjo’s later statements on the “emotion” of the Enneatype II, being the infamous phrase of “give to get”, described as “egocentric generosity”. Now, Naranjo describes the general traits of Enneatype II, being Pride, Love Need, Hedonism, Seductiveness, Nurturance and False Abundance, Histrionism, and Impressive Emotionality. These traits explain what Naranjo’s “emotion” is. The core of Enneagram 2. For the sake of this not turning into a giant citation index, I put in an analysis of Enneagram. “Give to Get”. A famous phrase for the So2 (although applying to E2 as well), often misinterpreted. Enneagram 2 is part of the heart triad, thus an extremely important trait for the E2 is insecurity. Enneagram Two is insecure. What does this mean? Building up, Naranjo’s description of the Enneatype’s Pride showcases what he describes as “corollaries”, being “the imaginary exaltation of self-worth and attractiveness, “playing the part of the princess,” demanding privileges, boasting, needing to be the center of attention,”. Perhaps these traits shouldn’t be taken too literally, but the general idea is that E2s have an innate desire for “attention”, the term transitioning over to “affection” and heavily expanded upon in the section of “Love Need”. Pride (desire for attention) obscures “affection”, yet “Just as the need to confirm an inflated sense of worth over)ows into an ****** motivation, pride overflows in the need for love (in turn expressed through physical and emotional intimacy), for the need to regard oneself as special is satis!ed through the love of another. The need for intimacy of ennea-type II makes of the person a “touchy feely” type and at a subtler levelleads to an intolerance of limits and invasiveness. Also, the strong need for love of the proud makes them “over-involved” in relationships and possessiveness. Theirs is a possessiveness supported in such” Summarizing, Enneagram two, sx2 sp2 so2, are all characterized by their need for attention and affection to maintain their proud image of certainty (and incidentally, collective standards as Naranjo notes Jung’s Fe correlates to type 2). They are also characterized by their insecurity, believing themselves to be, “(The proud are) supposedly OK and better than OK,”, yet also hold the desire that they are “unworthy of love”. They build social relationships, manipulate people, maintain an image, all for this desire for “affection”.
