I can genuinely understand why this philosophy is so controversial, primarily what prevents people from agreeing with it. The number one biggest thing that all life on the planet wants to do is procreate. Antinatalism is telling you to do quite the opposite, and even that, with a voluntary approach, is morally wrong or unethical. Now, I believe this philosophy is amazing and makes sense. But I can see why so many people don’t understand or want to bother with it. We are actively contradicting the very driving force behind an instinctive and evolutionary reason to live and prosper. The very concept of procreation is questioned, breaking and knocking down the very pedestals of what keeps the human race going. That HAS to be EXTREMELY controversial. Not everyone is gonna stand for such a thing, and it makes sense, because who the hell questions being born? Who the hell contemplates the highs and lows of the typical human life and deciphers if it’s worth it to go through suffering. I think human suffering is definitive, but joy is potential. It’s the unpredictability of it all, life that is, that makes bringing someone else into the world so dodgy when you truly sit down and think about it.
Biography
Antinatalism is an ethical position that concludes that procreation is always wrong. Antinatalists refrain from procreating to spare their descendants from all the suffering that is an inherent part of existence. It acknowledges the inability of the unborn to consent. Many are furthermore concerned with preventing the damage inflicted by humans on wildlife, nature and other beings. In either case the goal is to reduce suffering. Antinatalism does not condone any harm to already existing beings. Reminder: Antinatalism is a philosophy, NOT a movement.
