Katze MBTI Personality Type
Personality
What personality type is Katze? Katze is an INTJ personality type in MBTI, 1w9 - - in Enneagram, in Big 5, in Socionics.
Katze is an INTJ 1w9. His story is about his dream to rise above the social class he was born into, and by the time Riki meets him, he has. Katze never loses sight of that Ni vision--to be more than what the hand fate dealt him--but he lives in an SJ world that has a strict social hierarchy and demands obedience. To survive as a furniture, Katze must compromise on his values and perform his responsibilities as an obedient servant, without question. On the flip side, Katze spends a year hacking into Tanagura's systems because he wants to connect the dots between Guardian and Tanagura. He also enjoys the thrill outsmarting security gives him. However, his overwhelming need to share what he finds in the database gets him caught and ultimately leads to a new chapter in his life. Iason, not one to waste talent, appoints Katze as the Tanagura Representative for the Black Market. Katze thrives in this leadership role. His eyes and ears are everywhere. He now arrogantly looks down upon those who society deems he should be under. But with his empire under Iason thriving and vision of being more than a mongrel complete, he moves onto the next mission: Riki. Katze sees Riki's potential and plans to take Riki under his wing once Iason grows bored with him. Unfortunately for Katze, he doesn't see how much Riki means to Iason. "Keep your ears open and focused. No matter what, don't turn away from reality. But keep your mouth firmly closed. That is how you become the best of the best. Got it?" TYPING As an INxJ who constantly butts heads with xSTJs, Katze's conflict is with the SJ system; he himself is not an SJ. His struggle is about being at the mercy of a system he doesn't agree with and can't change, and not being able to change a bad system that directly impacts you is not an easy pill to swallow for an Ni-dom. So Katze uses his Te to convince his Fi to compromise on his values so he can live long enough to enact his Ni vision. This is the same function logic an INTJ villain uses when they go down the path of "the end justifies the means". And being an INTJ, this vision will take years to accomplish which is why Katze's situation only changes when he gets caught and Iason… “promotes” him. "You don't get a break without giving something up. So I took care of pets. Furniture is disposable -- you do what you're told to in order to survive. You shut down your emotions and you deal, even if you have to punish someone from the same place you are. That's what it took to be suitable for a Blondie. You weren't a man anymore, but as long as you didn't try to be more than what you were destined for, you could be content." (V3 p121) If you're only looking at Katze's behavior and not the why behind the behavior then yes, Katze very much looks like an ISTJ 1w9. INTJ 1s often mistype as ISTJs for a reason (and 5s as INTP and 8s as ENTJ). It's even harder in the 2012 anime where we don't get much time with him other than his role as Iason's calm, stoic black market broker. However, we get a fantastic conversation with Riki in episode four that shows Katze's stack even though it's used as exposition to hint at Katze's backstory. Riki: I'm mad because they always do these pointless things! Katze: The instinct of prejudice cannot be easily wiped out, no matter how logically you justify equality. It's just the way the world works. Riki: I know that. You don't need to tell me that now. Katze: Oh? So the slum mongrel wastes his freedom by wallowing in self-pity? You're the lowest form of garbage. There's not a big market for a simple delivery boy. So don't waste your energy. Keep your ears open and focused. No matter what, don't turn away from reality. But keep your mouth firmly closed. That is how you become the best of the best. Got it? - Episode 4 2012 Anime. This is an extremely telling conversation. Let's start with the line that can easily be mistaken as Si. I'm going to re-order it so it reads easier: "No matter how logically you justify equality, the instinct of prejudice cannot be easily wiped out. It's just the way the world works." This is not Si saying, "it is what it is", which is what I thought the first time I saw it. This is a person who has convinced themselves that they cannot change the status quo even if they use logic to justify why the status quo is wrong. Katze is older now--he's learning to use his Se more--he's pulled his Ni out of idealism land when it comes to the caste system and accepts the hard truth--that prejudice is a systematic problem and that one person cannot change a systemic problem. Even Riki's response of "I know that" is hilarious to me because of course he does--Riki's Se aux. (1/2)
