This was supposed to be a counter-argument for one of arguments @[Am2] had made but this got so absurdly long that I'm leaving it as a separate comment. Seeing that many people have liked their comments, I don't think it's a bad thing to see someone debunk a popular INTP argument in an accessible way. I'll focus on the arguments for the Ti dom and Ne aux functions because 1) the first two functions shape the core ways of perceiving and judging for the type and 2) I had already put way too much time into this lol. I'll break down most of the arguments because they show a really shallow understanding of cognitive functions or take some general traits and assign them to a single function without considering any other options (and I had a lot to say about them in general). EDIT: Since the user who wrote the original arguments changed their user name on PDB, I realized it'd be more reasonable for me to put a link to their argument. You know, accessibility, transparency and all of that nice stuff. → https://www.personality-database.com/comment/5761150?profileID=524162 → https://www.personality-database.com/comment/5758592?profileID=524162 (An older argument that essentially has the same points as the newer one) EDIT 2: Numbered the OG arguments to make the citations easier. ✦ DOMINANT INTROVERTED THINKING [1/2] ✦ 1) "Instead of straight up saying he doesn't have enough parts to give the meca crab as a reward he made a whole logical explanation why he shouldn't give them every time. (There must be a logical explanation for everything.)" → This is more of a Tx trait, not an exclusive Ti trait. Tighnari's explanation for why he wasn't giving a reward was because 1) the mechanical crab might start to take advantage of the system if every little thing resulted in a reward and 2) he's running low on parts, though he did give it a part because "it might come up with some weird misunderstanding if I don't give it something". Again, not a good example of Ti. 2) "He doesn't want to join the Academiya because of his own reasons even though it would be a better 'job' for him. Ti or Fi fit this way more since they are more subjective rather than Si or Te which would find it weird to not use this opportunity." → Your understanding of Tighnari's motives for declining the invitation is poor. Firstly, he has never left the Sumeru Akademiya. He graduated from it, sure, but he still a researcher at the Akademiya. The only thing he declined was a faculty position. → Secondly, there are multiple reasons for why he declined the invitation. He prioritized his responsibilities as a forest watcher over the position in the Akademiya faculty but even more importantly, he had previously asked his master to provide the necessary information of the duration (and nature) of his possible stay in Sumeru City and yet they (his master and the Akademiya faculty) failed to do so, which made him very irritated and ultimately caused him to reject the invitation. Tighnari has also shown to be critical of the Akademiya because of the way it "handles certain matters leaves much to be desired" (Voice-over of "About Tighnari: Profession"). In other words, he has his own disdain for the faculty but it's a mixed bag of both personal reasons and the inefficiency of the system (e.g. when providing him the necessary information). → Next, I'm gonna focus on your argument that high Si/Te users would use the opportunity of getting a faculty position because "it would be a better 'job' for him". Firstly, a very shallow understanding of both Si and Te as cognitive functions. Having high Si and Te functions doesn't mean the person will bend over backwards just to serve a system in every situation. Every function can and will reject an external system if it goes against their way of thinking. → Secondly, Si is a subjective perceiving function. Si doesn't make decisions, it only gathers information; the decision making is a judging function's job (Je/Ji). Si is also as subjective as Fi and Ti. While the Ji functions make the decision making "personal", the Pi functions (Si/Ni) make the information gathering "personal". If you were to present a "better 'job'" to a Pi dom user, they wouldn't take it purely because it's objectively better; they would pick the job that serves the Pi dom user better personally. → Thirdly, while Te is about making objective logical decisions, its aim is to make the most objectively logical decisions in every given situation. If you were to present a "better 'job'" to a high Te user but the system you work for is defective (e.g. inefficient at best, corrupt and predatory at worst), they would deem the decision to change jobs to be objectively a bad choice. This is especially true if they deem their current system to be more objectively true than the new system. [[ CONTINUES ON IN THE COMMENTS ]]
