The rivals to lovers trope is when two characters start off as rivals and, over the course of a book or series, end up in a romantic relationship. Usually takes place in academic settings. Different to enemies to lovers as the characters are working towards the same goal, often on the same side of the conflict, but there is still angst and animosity between the two characters.
