ESFP vs ENFP I've seen many people voting him as an ENFP (and even an INTP but i don't know where that might've come from), I very strongly disagree about it as, even if they might share some superficial traits, I just cannot see Maeno as a Ne dom. Dominant Se; > “Extraverted Sensing (Se) is the most concrete information gathering function. It literally senses the environment: sees, tastes, smells, hears, and touches, while focusing mostly on the present. Extraverted Intuition (Ne) is more interested in the abstract possibilities behind objects and stimuli, It takes in the environment as a bunch of ideas, concepts, and opportunities". For starters, Maeno has an altruistic and idealistic personality. He seems more worried about results rather than exploring and seeing the different possibilities of how to achieve them. Also, even as a psychiatric genius, he doesn't seem to be good at looking at the deeper meaning of things, instead focusing on the big picture. The biggest example of this can be seen with his ZENO cure thesis being wrong. The cure was not eating other patient's meat but instead the shock and trauma that might come from it, overthrowing the traumatic memory that induced the patient's ZENO onset. He wrongly assumed this as he only took the superficial aspects of his experience at face value instead of dwelling on any other possibility Even when trying to discuss his inferior functions, between Ni and Si it's rather obvious which one comes first. > "Se doms can use Ni consciously for tasks that require attention to abstract conceptualization. For instance, when making an important decision, one needs to visualize potential outcomes in order to decide appropriately". While inferior Ni helps with the decision making process and uses it's intuition when looking for information without caring where it comes from, inferior Si is deadset on searching in past memories to build an answer. The only times Maeno dwells in his past always comes from him projecting his feelings on others (for example, Tsugino) and this is NOT inf Si, this clearly comes from his aux Fi. Also, > "When the ESFP is stuck in their SeTe loops they become focused on taking action, and can become rather tunnel-visioned". Maeno is in a constant SeTe loop. After Natsu's death he decided to pour years into researching ZENO and a possible cure, even after regaining his memories the first thing he decides to do is try to fix Tsugino's symptoms and take responsability for being the cause of his onset.
