Why Ella is an INFP So, yesterday I was having a chat with someone here and they said that Ella is an ISFJ. In the end we agreed to disagree, but I felt that I should post why I think Ella is INFP opposed to ISFJ, because I was accused of being biased because INFP is my type when this is not the reason at all. I have already type people other types before, even characters that I love and people say are my type and I know they aren’t. Besides, it is totally possible that a character has two personality typings in different versions. Just see Spiderman - In the first trilogy Peter is an INFP and in the recent Marvel movies he is clearly an ENFP. And why? Because different people tell the same story in different ways and this may change how a character acts and thinks. This is what happens in this version of Cinderella. So why Ella (2015) is a INFP (Fi): Different from her original version, where Cinderella was kind and didn’t fought back to her evil stepmother as a way to survive her situation - a practical and totally valid reason - in the movie the reason why she keeps being kind to the people around her is because of her mothers words that stuck with her “Have courage and be kind”. She even says this the prince. These words have become her most important value and she sticks to it in all situations, no matter what others do or say to her. See the hunting scene for example. This movie is set in a medieval era, where hunting is accepted and praised by society. A Fe user may not agree with it, but probably wouldn’t say much about the fact. The Prince is an example of it - He is a Fe dom and doesn’t seem to like the hunting but “it what is done” to which Cindy, following her deep value of being courageous and kind reply “Is not because it is done that it should be done.” She is not scare to stand up to her values in front of a person who is cleary from the palace, and she is not scared to disturb the harmony if she believes on it. Besides the whole reason why she runs away and meets the prince in the hunting place is because of her Fi. She runs away not because the work is too hard, but because the stepmother attacked her identity calling her Cinderella - She felt scared of what her person was becoming, a person that only works and cannot dream. That was way scarier than anything else in that house. And when her stepmother destroyed her dress, she apologized to her mother because she was giving up the values that were taught. And in the ball scene, when the prince says she will marry the other princess, the first thing she says to him is that he should “follow his heart”, which means follow what he feels is right. And him being the Fe dom he is said he couldn’t, he should listen to others. (Ne): This is my highest argument. After all the movies make clear that this girl has high Ne. There is simply no way that this girl has Ne as her inferior function, when the way she is described in the piece is “Not as seeing the world as it is, but as it should be.” The movie says this in the beginning and in the end, in the two stances where Ella is in a healthy environment. Now tell me, is this a phrase often used to describe the S doms or N doms? I think we know the answer. N doms, especially Ne dom, is described as seeing all the possibilities of a situation. Not saying that S dom can’t do this, but this way of thinking is more natural to N doms than to S doms. And when allied to Fi, this Ne sees the capability to see the good in others, exactly like Ella does with her step family. She tries her best to use her Ne with them, as too see them in a good light to carry her value to be kind. The Ne is used in this way in most of the movie. Besides in the end of the movie, instead of using her practical ways to find the Prince, this Ella goes to her dreams as a way to cope, a very N dom to do. Because yes, N dom are not all crazy fighters. In fact, by seeing all the possibilities of what could go wrong, some of us have the tendency to stick in bad situations out of fear of what may happen to us, even when we have a real chance to escape. (Si): Her tertiary Si is seen as the way she follows routine. Not all INFP are lazy people who can do much, we can follow a routine. I say this a Fim dom that, if doesn’t follow it, ends without a job. So yes, we are not natural at it, but we can develop our Si well enough to be able to carry our lives. Same goes with Ella. And in the end, she thinks of the past as a way to give strength to her Fi. She always remember the values taught to her at young age, has a fondness for the house that comes from her golden childhood and not only a way to have shelter and in the end of movie, we see her writing in the diary about the prince, describing ever single thing as a way to give her strength in the future. I didn't see use of Te, I will say nothing about it. This is my reasoning to why I think she is INFP, not because I'm biased and want her to be it, I have arguments for my belief.
